Portales auto burglary suspect arrested

The man accused of burglarizing multiple vehicles in the Portales area has been arrested, according to the Portales Police Department.
Police arrested 20-year-old Stephen Phillips of Portales after an investigation into several automobile burglaries in Portales, Roosevelt County and the Eastern New Mexico University Campus.
Phillips was arrested on outstanding warrants for parole violation, failure to appear, resisting arrest and possession of drug paraphernalia, police said.
Her was arrested in the 1400 block of South Avenue C after police said he attempted to elude officers by climbing out of a rear window of a home.
Phillips was transported to the Roosevelt County Detention Center and additional charges of possession of dangerous drugs, a felon in possession of a firearm and other violations as they relate to the auto burglaries are pending, police said.
Large quantities of stolen items from auto burglaries were found in the home in the 1400 block of South Avenue C on Friday, police said. A 9mm handgun, which was reported stolen, was also located in addition to drugs.
