One church in Amarillo celebrated its 125 years in the community while reliving its traditional days of service.
Polk St. United Methodist Church held two services in remembrance of the church's origin and faith. Known as the oldest church in Amarillo, the Methodist congregation initially gathered in the city court house before finding its home on Polk St. Senior Pastor Burt Palmer said early church pastors would saddle up on a horse and head out of town after a lively service.
"We celebrated the ways the church was so vital during the years of the Dust Bowl, Great Depression. All those years when there was difficulty," Palmer said.
Palmer said even after 125 years of service, the church remains active in the community.
