A 51-year-old man has died following a Monday morning crash on Amarillo Blvd. West.

According to the Amarillo Police Department, the crash happened around 6:30 a.m., in the 2100- block of Amarillo Blvd. West.

APD said a 1997 Chevrolet Suburban driven by a 46-year-old woman had broken down in the right hand land of westbound traffic. Her suburban was rear-ended by a 2008 Pontiac Grand Prix, driven by German Nanez Sr.

Police said Nanez died at the scene from injuries he received in the crash. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and, police say, speed is also a factor of the crash.

APD's Traffic Investigation Squad is still investigating the wreck.

Westbound lanes of traffic were blocked for at least two hours while crews worked to clean up the area.
