Police arrest driver following hit-and-run that sent 2 to the hospital
AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) —
A 19-year-old man was arrested Thursday afternoon following a hit-and-run that sent 2 people to the hospital.
According to the Amarillo Police Department, Tyran Drew fled the scene of a crash that happened just after 4 p.m. at Southwest 6th Avenue and South Lamar Street.
Police said when officers arrived on the scene, they found that a blue Dodge four-door had been southbound on Lamar Street crossing Southwest 6th Avenue when a black Nissan Rogue struck the Dodge. The Nissan was being driven by Drew and was traveling at a high rate of speed.
After striking the Dodge, the Nissan continued across the eastbound lanes of Southwest 6th Avenue, then crossed the curb line and struck a chain link fence, as well as a metal trailer and antique vehicles inside the fence.
APD said Drew then fled the scene.
Two women, ages 19 and 22, were passengers in the Nissan. Both were taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Dodge told police she would seek medical attention, but that she did not need an ambulance.
Police said Drew was arrested near 5th Avenue and South Georgia Street. He was taken to the hospital for minor injuries, then booked into the Potter County Jail for leaving the scene of an accident involving serious bodily injury.
