Police and FBI investigate shooting as hate crime

Divine intervention or good luck? Bullets stopped by bible versus book. But could the crime be a hate crime?

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) - Authorities are investigating whether the shooting of a bus driver who says a book of Bible verses in his pocket helped stop two bullets was a hate crime.

Dayton Police Chief Richard Biehl said Wednesday he contacted the FBI after reading the initial police report and becoming concerned about the possibility of a hate crime.

White bus driver Rickey Wagoner tells police he was outside his bus early Monday when three black men shot him. Another bullet hit his leg, and he says he was also stabbed in the arm.

Police have recovered a .25-caliber semi-automatic pistol and a knife.
