Pedestrian killed in hit and run identified

A uthorities have released the name of the man who was found dead on US 287 Wednesday morning. Around 4:00 am, Curtis James Nesbitt, 50, of Battlecreek, Michigan, was walking in the inside lane of westbound US 287 when he was hit by a semi. DPS Troopers said that, Nesbitt was thrown 53 yards into the center median, where he was later discovered by a passing motorist at about 8:20 am.

The driver of the semi, drove his truck to the Flying J truck stop on I-40 east of Amarillo, a few miles away. Troopers began searching for the semi after Nesbitt was discovered. They later found the vehicle, and confirmed it was involved in the crash.

Troopers said that the driver will not be charged with any crime as a result of the crash investigation.
