Parents, stores prepare for Texas tax-free weekend
AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) —
Last weekend, New Mexico and Oklahoma residents headed for their tax-free weekend. This weekend, it will be Texas' turn.
Many children are heading back to school earlier than usual this year, and this means tax-free weekend comes earlier, from August 11 through August 13.
According to the Texas Comptroller, "the law exempts most clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks priced less than $100 from sales and use taxes." This could save shoppers about $8 on every $100 spent. This includes items sold online, by telephone or mail.
The Texas Comptroller also says shoppers can use layaway plans to take advantage of the sales tax holiday.
