Panhandle Spirit: Charles Goodnight??s legacy continues

Fri, 16 Aug 2013 15:17:04 GMT — The Charles Goodnight Historical Center in Goodnight opened earlier this year.They??re seeing a steady stream of tourists.Tours are also conducted of the house, which maintains the Goodnight style.Last week the Texas Rangers honored Goodnight with a Masonic Cross at his grave at the Goodnight Cemetery.A Comanche song was presented during the ceremony by Marla Nauni.Goodnight was friends with Quanah Parker.Many Texas Rangers attended the event.Ranger Alvin Schmidt says, "We tried to get as many to come up as many as we could?|but we want to carry on the Texas Ranger legacy.Goodnight lived in the house with his wife, Molly.She??s credited with convincing him to capture the buffalo in Palo Duro Canyon and to raise them on the ranch.
