Panhandle man killed by train

21-year-old Joe Dylan Spears was killed Thursday after officials say he was struck by a BNSF train just west of Panhandle near U.S. Highway 60 and FM 2161.

According to the Carson County Sheriff's Office, Spears was standing near the railroad tracks by a grain elevator when he was struck by the train. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Carson County Justice of the Peace Jean Hardman.

At this time the incident is currently under investigation by the Carson County Sheriff's Office and BNSF police.
