Police: Pair arrested for robbery, shooting of teen at Amarillo park

Amarillo police have arrested two teens in connection to a shooting that injured an 17-year-old at Benton Park.

The shooting happened around 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, and resulted in a 17-year-old victim being sent to the hospital.

According to the Amarillo Police Department, detectives tracked down leads and found that the two suspects were 18-year-old Christopher Cortez and 18-year-old Exavier Monteze Steward.

Police said warrants were issued through Potter County on both Steward and Cortez for Aggravated Robbery and Aggravated Assault. On Friday, officers stopped a vehicle in the 3700- block of I-40 West and Cortez was the passenger in the vehicle. He was arrested for his warrants and booked into the Potter County Jail.

APD said Steward was found by school liaison officers in the 3900- block of Westlawn. He was arrested for his warrants and also booked into the Potter County Jail.
