Night of costumes, treats and spooks draws near

Halloween is just around the corner, and the people of the Texas Panhandle are crowding to the stores to ensure they have everything they need for a night of tricks and treats.

Voodoo Halloween, located off of I-40 and Wolflin, is one of several Halloween stores in Amarillo. Masks, makeup, costumes, accessories and decor fill the building. And when Sunday afternoon rolled around, the building filled even more with people doing some last-minute Halloween shopping.

"You can become something that you are not every day," Voodoo Halloween Store Manager Gwen Chandler said. "You can, you know, put that on and play a role, whether it be scary or funny or just completely opposite of your personality every day."

Halloween used to target mostly children who planned on trick-or-treating. But nowadays, it seems adults get just as if not more excited about Halloween than children.

"I've really been kind of awestruck at how many adults come in for mainly adult costumes," Chandler said. "They even bring their little kids in and, 'No, we're looking for us; we've already got theirs. We want to look for us.'"

Everything at Voodoo Halloween is now 50 percent off. Chandler recommends everyone go out to the store and grab that extra something to make the spook-tacular Halloween holiday that much better.

"We have everything in our store. There's something here for everybody!"
