      FARMINGTON, N.M. (AP) - Farmington police say an officer fatally shot a man while responding to a domestic violence call. Sgt. Joshua Laino says an officer arriving at the home last night shot a man who confronted the officer while armed with what Laino described as a "large edged weapon." Laino said a caller had told a dispatcher that a man at the home had thrown a small child from a bed, was striking a female and breaking things. Police did not immediately identify the officer or the dead man.

      ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - The president of a youth football league in Albuquerque and his wife have had their initial court appearances after being accused of manufacturing and distributing child pornography. Bernalillo County deputies announced the arrests last Friday of Fredrick Gonzales and Carey Gonzales after a four-month investigation. The couple is due in court today for their detention hearings. Sheriff's deputies say Fredrick Gonzales presides over the Young America Football League for the Albuquerque District. They say Carey Gonzales is a teacher's assistant at Montezuma Elementary School.

      SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - A Republican lawmaker wants New Mexico elections officials to ensure that noncitizens aren't registered to vote. Senate GOP Whip William Payne of Albuquerque has introduced a bill requiring the secretary of state to periodically check the state's voter registration rolls for noncitizens, who aren't allowed to vote.

      SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - Virgin Galactic says it supports newly proposed New Mexico legislation to limit liability of spacecraft part suppliers from damage lawsuits by passengers on space tourism flights launched from the state. Virgin Galactic President George Whitesides also confirms that the company was involved in negotiations that led to a proposed bill that may be introduced today. Virgin Galactic plans to fly tourists into outer space at $200,000-a-ticket from Spaceport America.
