Nearly 1 million jars of peanut-butter to be dumped in landfill

Nearly 1 million jars of peanut-butter are set to be discarded in a New Mexico landfill.

Nearly a million jars of untainted peanut butter are being dumped at a New Mexico landfill to expedite the sale of the bankrupt Sunland Inc. in Portales.

The plant was at the heart of a 2012 salmonella outbreak and nationwide recall. A bankruptcy trustee says the peanut butter was produced for Costco before the plant shut last fall. But Costco refused shipment of the product and declined requests to let it be donated to food banks or repackaged or sold to brokers.
