A routine traffic stop just west of Vega around 12:00 p.m. Saturday led officials to the recovery of a missing teenager out of Chandler, Arizona.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the trooper pulled over a vehicle driven by 25-year old Roy Eddie Sweatt from North Carolina six miles west of Vega on I-40 for speeding. When the DPS trooper checked Sweatt and the teen's name, the trooper found the 15-year old teen was listed as missing and endangered. She was quickly taken into DPS safety and is now with Child Protective Services. Sweatt was taken to the Oldham County Sheriff's Department. DPS officials say he's been booked for harboring a runaway child. Texas Rangers have taken over the investigation.
Authorities say it's unclear exactly how the two met, but believe it was through the internet. Those close to the investigation in Arizona say her mother is flying into Amarillo Sunday to be reunited with her daughter.
