Miss Texas Latina pageant comes to Amarillo

Miss El Paso Latina, Ashley Garner was crowned Miss Latina Texas 2013, and Miss Teen Amarillo, Bianca Guadian was crowned Miss Teen Texas Latina 2013.

Amarillo welcomed hundreds of fellow Texans for the Miss Texas Latina pageant Sunday evening at the Amarillo Civic Center.

More than 30 girls from all over the state were flown in to compete for the title of Miss Texas Latina, the preliminary for the Miss US Latina National competition.

Among the contestants was 18-year-old Kimberley Murgia who was crowned Miss Amarillo Latina last month.

State Director for the pageant, Juan Arturo Ramirez said this year's pageant system was different from other pageants.

"More than a model, a role model," was the motto for this year's competition said Ramirez. "They just have to make sure they become a role model for all of our girls here in the state of Texas."

The winner will receive a $1,500 scholarship and a roundtrip ticket to Mexico for nationals.
