Man shot while crossing street in north Amarillo

An Amarillo man is in the hospital after being shot while walking across the road Wednesday evening, and police are searching for the gunman.

The shooting reportedly happened while Joey Garcia, 28, was crossing Northeast 11th Avenue and North Lincoln Street around 6:00 p.m.

Witnesses told police that Garcia stopped to talk to a black man in a gold SUV, when the suspect pulled out a gun and shot him in the chest. Police are now searching for that man.

The victim was transported to the hospital. Officers at the scene believed his injuries to be life-threatening.
