Man killed in early morning motel shooting

The Special Crimes Unit of the Amarillo Police Department is investigating an early morning homicide.

Authorities issued a murder warrant in this homicide for 24-year-old David Allen Jeffries.

Jeffries was arrested by members of the Amarillo Police SWAT Team and the Narcotics Unit.

Police said Jeffries was found with about 7.8 grams of what was believed to be crack cocaine.

He was booked into the Potter County Jail on the charges of murder and manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance over four grams and less than 200 grams in a drug-free zone.

Police are investigating an early morning homicide at an Amarillo motel.

At about 12:25 a.m., officers responded to the Sleepin Inn Motel in the 800 block of Amarillo Boulevard West on the report of a shooting.

Officers arrived and found 37-year-old Corey Jamar Black lying on the ground with an apparent gunshot wound to the upper body.

Black was declared dead at the scene, police said.

An autopsy was ordered by a Justice of the peace and the Special Crimes Unit is continuing to investigate the homicide.
