Man charged with manslaughter after hit and run


aturday night at approximately 10:09 p.m. Amarillo Police Officers responded to a wreck at 41st Avenue and south Washington.

According to a news release, 34-year-old Timothy Nicholas Hilleary was driving a motorcycle northbound on Washington when a car turned southbound onto Washington. The motorcycle struck the white car and the car fled the scene.

Hilleary was transported to a hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Amarillo Police Department Officers later found the white Nissan Maxima and the driver who was brought back to the scene.

The driver was identified as David Monarez, 30. Monarez was booked into the Randall County Sheriff's Office Jail for intoxicated manslaughter and failure to stop and render aid. Alcohol and speed were a factor in the wreck.

An autopsy has been ordered for Hilleary.

APD's Traffic Investigation Squad is investigating the case.
