      Man barricades himself inside Amarillo motel, possibly armed

      Update 5:12pPolice said the standoff ended peacefully. Weapons were recovered from the motel room.

      The suspect, now in custody, is charged with aggravated assault on a public servant. He has been identified as 31-year-old Don Albritten.

      Special Crimes is resonding to the scene because it was an officer-involved situation.

      Update 3:09pPronews 7 on scene has confirmed a bomb squad has arrived on scene.

      Update 3:06pAmarillo Independent School District has confirmed that Bowie Middle School is not on lockdown. Instead, AISD officials said it is taking heightened security measures. Classes are releasing as normal at 3:30, however, pickups will only happen on the north side of the school.

      Update 2:38pAmarillo Police said the SWAT team was working on another case that led it to the Super 8 motel. A SWAT member knocked on a room door at the motel and a man inside threw a rifle out the window, police said.

      Police then said an officer was coming around a corner of the building when he saw through a window a man with a pistol. The man then pointed the pistol toward the officer and the officer fired a shot, police said. At this time there is no indication the bullet hit the suspect.

      Contact has been made with someone in the motel and negotiations are underway, police said.

      The motel room, according to police, is on the second floor on the north side of the building. The man inside the room is not believed to be the person police were looking for.

      Update 2:32pPronews 7 has confirmed nearby Bowie Middle School is on lockdown.First reportedA man has barricaded himself in an Amarillo motel room and at least one shot has been fired, police confirmed.

      Police said the man is inside a room at the Super 8 Motel in the 2900 block of I-40 East. Police said the SWAT team was conducting a followup investigation when the situation started. Cpl. Neufeld with Amarillo Police said the suspect did not cooperate with police

      At least one shot was fired, police said. It is not known at this time if the shot came from police or the suspect.

      In addition, a gun was thrown from a motel window, police said.

      Authorities are now in negotiations with the suspect.

      At this time, the Interstate 40 frontage road is closed off. Northbound on Quarterhorse has also been closed down.
