UPDATE: A second complaint has been filed against Martinez by APD Detectives. On October 24, 2013 the Randall County District Attorney's office accepted a charge of continuous Sexual Abuse of a child/ victim under 14 years of age. Martinez is in custody under $275,000 in bonds on the complaints against him.
S aturday October 5, 2013, Amarillo Police Department officers responded to reports of sexual activity involving a child.
In a news release APD said they received reports that a child entered an adult male's apartment and engaged in sexual activity with the man. The person reporting the information to police was a relative of the child.
When officers arrived on scene, the suspect was not home. APD officers spoke other witnesses in the area who told police that they were suspicious of the man and that he may have been showing child pornographic images to children in the common area of the apartment complex. When the suspect arrived police detained him and took a notebook computer and a flash drive the suspect kept on his person and interviewed the suspect. Officers did not have enough information to arrest the man at the time.
On October 6, 2013, officers then obtained a search warrant for the suspect's residence and executed the search early in the morning. They seized three computers and several CDs. The suspect was released pending further investigation.
During the investigation, police found evidence of child pornography. The Randall County District Attorney's Office accepted 10 counts of possession of child pornography against 37-year-old Paul John Martinez on October 18, 2013.
Martinez was arrested yesterday by Randall County deputies and booked into the Randall County Jail.
APD Crimes Against Persons detectives are still investigating the case.
