Man arrested for string of auto burglaries

According to Amarillo Police Department, a 25-year-old man was arrested Sunday after police responded to an auto burglary report in the 1600 block of north Manhattan.

APD said a resident informed officers that as they were trying to leave for work, they saw a man seated inside of his car. When the suspect saw the owner approaching the vehicle, the suspect ran from the seen only to later return a short time later to pick a cell phone he had left behind in the vehicle. The owner caught the suspect again and the suspect fled.

APD officers responded to the scene and followed the footprints left behind by the suspect tracking him down to another vehicle where he was lying across the front seat. The suspect was arrested and APD recovered headphones, and iPod, a phone charger and loose change that police believe the suspect had entered at least three other vehicles and a storage building. APD officers also found a small amount of methamphetamine on the suspect.

25-year-old Collin Thomas Ferguson of Bloomfield New Mexico was arrested and booked into the Potter County Detention Center for possession of a controlled substance, burglary of a building and three charges of burglary of a motor vehicle.
