Just after midnight on Monday morning, Amarillo Police Department officers responded to an aggravated assault call in the 1800 block of north Poplar.
According to APD, a 27-year-old man was suffering from stab wounds to his shoulder and stomach. His injuries were not life-threatening. A second man, a 23-year-old victim was also stabbed and had left for the hospital before police arrived at the scene.
The 27-year-old victim told police that the suspect was a guest in his home during a cook out. According to the victim the suspect was on narcotics and picked up a knife and stabbed the two men before running away. The 27-year-old victim was then taken to the hospital and treated for his injuries.
Shortly after the first report, APD officers received another report that a man was trying to remove a window air conditioning unit from a residence in the 1400 block of north Buchanan. APD said the man got away before they arrived but his description matched the one given by the stabbing victims.
Later that morning, reports surfaced of a man standing in the street yelling at cars in the 15th and Dumas area. The man was identifies as 26-year-old Gabriel Vega.
APD said Vega had blood on his hands and shirt. He was treated for his cuts and booked into the Potter County Jail for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
