Amarillo Police Department officers responded to a wreck on east Amarillo Boulevard and Triangle Drive at approximately 12:52 a.m. September 15, 2013.
When officers arrived on the scene they learned that a Chevy pickup was traveling eastbound in the right lane when it rear ended a Dodge pickup driven by 56-year-old Daniel Wood Craig. Craig was taken to a hospital where he was treated for his injuries. He was later arrested and booked into jail for other traffic warrants.
According to APD, the Chevy fled the scene. The vehicle was later located and a passenger in the front seat of the Chevy was trapped and had to be removed by Amarillo Fire Department. The passenger was identified as 34-year-old Jose Sanchez-Magana. Sanchez-Magana was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Another passenger that fled the scene was later found in the 7800 block of Triangle Drive where he was seeking help. This passenger was identified as Juan Alberto Sanchez, 28. Sanchez was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Police later found the driver of the Chevy at a house in the 700 block of north Garfield. He was identified as 20-year-old Diego Garcia Ramirez. Ramirez had blood on his clothes from a head injury that was consistent with the collision. He was taken to a hospital and treated. Ramirez was later booked into the Potter County Sheriff's Office Jail for accident causing injury/death.
APD Traffic Investigation Squad is investigating the incident.
