Man arrested after DPS finds 51 pounds of marijuana during traffic stop

53-year-old Joel A. Sanford was arrested Monday after a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper found 51 pounds of marijuana during a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 87 near Dumas in Moore County.

According to DPS, a trooper stopped a Toyota Camry Monday morning in Moore County. During the stop, the trooper searched the vehicle and found 45 bundles of marijuana inside the trunk of the vehicle. DPS said the estimated value of the drugs is more than $23,000.

Sanford was arrested for possession of marijuana and booked into the Moore County Jail. The drugs were allegedly being transported from Sacramento, Calif. to an unknown location.
