A man wanted for indecency with a child was arrested last night after a 7 hour standoff with police.
F riday night at approximately 11:40 p.m. Amarillo Police Department Officers checked a residence in the 7700 block of River Road for a wanted person.
According to APD, an officer saw the man standing on the front porch and called out his name. The suspect went back into the house immediately and locked it behind him. Officers surrounded the house to prevent the suspect from leaving the house.
SWAT was requested at approximately 12:30 a.m. after several unsuccessful attempts to make contact with the suspect and it was believed that the suspect had access to firearms. Negotiators and additional support were also called in to assist. Negotiators spent several hours trying to communicate with the suspect.
At approximately 6:30 a.m. SWAT finally entered the residence and found the suspect in the basement with a small child and a female. 34-year-old Michael Fruit was taken into custody without any further incident and was booked into Potter County on the outstanding warrant.
APD said the female and child were not injured in the incident.
