CNN -- A
disturbing case of Animal Cruelty has shocked a small town in Texas. Someone shot a mother dog in the head, leaving her and her live puppies on the side of the road. Rescuers and even other dog's are helping to care for the puppies.
The mother dog, a shepherd/heeler mix, and her 10 puppies were in a kennel on the side of Raley Road in Springtown, Texas, when someone her in the head.
Her week-old pups were still trying to suckle milk from her body when they were spotted. They were covered in blood.
Dog rescuer Jennifer Aikman took them in, cleaned them up, and amazingly got them fixed up with two other nursing dogs that accepted them in their litters.
Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler said there's not a lot of evidence -- just the cage, which was lined with cardboard typically used for schooldisplays, and an empty water bowl made from a pot. The sheriff boosted the reward to $2,000.
After the dogs are weaned, they'll need caring families to adopt them. You can get more information at the Angels & Outlaws Second Chance Bully Ranch Facebook page.
