A fire was reported at a local elementary school, which is now being investigated by the Fire Marshal's office.
The Amarillo Fire Department responded to a possible structure fire at Mesa Verde Elementary School yesterday evening around 8 p.m.
Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy smoke and fire conditions in the detached gymnasium building behind Mesa Verde.
Crews entered the building and were able to quickly extinguish the fire.
The fire did not spread to the main school building which was located nearby.
The building was unoccupied at the time of the fire and no injuries have been reported.
This was a second alarm fire which brings four engines, two ladders, and two command vehicles to the scene.
The Amarillo Fire Marshal's office is investigating the fire at the time.
The initial damage estimate is thought to be approximately $250,000.
