A deputy drove up on a turned over semi truck, but what happened while he was waiting on additional units is what was more shocking.
On Aug. 28, at approximately 4:30 p.m., Cpl. James Palmitier was on patrol along US 287 when he located a semi truck that had been turned on its side by the recent strong winds and inclement weather.
The wreck was located at US 287 & County Road J. Cpl. Palmitier was the first to arrive on scene.
The deputy was inside the Sheriff's Office patrol unit waiting for other units to arrive when lightning struck the deputy's vehicle. There were no injuries.
