      Leggings targeted in dress codes nationwide

      Canyon ISD's student dress code specifically addresses leggings, and how they are to be worn.

      O ne of the top trending topics in education today is the dress code surrounding leggings, a popular tight-fitting form of pants.

      Some schools have banned leggings all together. Others have set limits.

      How appropriate are they for students?

      Amarillo ISD's school dress code reads that they ban "all overly tight and improperly fitting garments," as well as specifications including "pants/shorts/skirts biker shorts" and "panOne of the top trending topics in education today is the dress code surrounding leggings, a popular tight-fitting form of pants.

      Canyon ISD's school dress code is more specific to leggings, and reads, "Leggings and jean leggings must be covered with a top that reaches finger-tip length."

      Some parents and students around the nation are complaining, saying that more developed girls are being targeted. In one particular case going on right now in Evanston, Ill., the school board is reviewing the policy for their district.

      Legal experts say that these matters are typically settled outside of court unless there's a safety issue at hand.
