Lack of air pressure causes hazardous material spill


riday afternoon the Texas Department of Public Safety responded to a hazardous material spill in Hemphill County.

A truck was towing another truck going south on U.S. Highway 83 when the driver attempted to stop the vehicle but failed.

24-year-old Juan Miguel Ruiz-Rivero was driving the truck when he attempted to stop the vehicles before an intersection. There was a lack of air pressure for the vehicle so it was unable to stop. Rivero turned the vehicle to south on the intersection causing both vehicles to overturn and spill hazardous material.

According to DPS, Rivero's condition is unknown. Rivero was transported to Hemphill County Hospital.

An Amarillo environmental company cleaned and contained the spill.
