N early 5,000 people packed downtown Amarillo today for the Susan G. Komen Greater Amarillo Race for the Cure, which kicks-off National Breast Cancer awareness month Oct. 1.
"T here are so many people that are excited. We started a new event this year called VIP Pink. Race Co-Chair, Ashley Kelley said. "The teams that are over there all have amazing stories and they've been working so hard to raise huge amounts of money for us and they're having a great time. It means something different to everyone else but it's special to almost everyone that's out here.
T his year the Komen Greater Amarillo Affiliate is setting its goal at $100,000 to be raised by the end of October. Those funds will help pay for services here in the Panhandle including: free mammograms and diagnostics, and medical treatment for those who qualify and need surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation.
