A stolen car was recovered, but, unfortunately, none of the personal items -- including personal identifiers & family photographs -- were inside at the time of recovery.

On Aug. 26 at 9:19 a.m., APD officers observed a silver Nissan Rouge traveling westbound on NE 15th that matched a description of a stolen vehicle.

Officers stopped the vehicle in the 1300 block of N. Johnson and detained the female driver.

The driver claimed that she was given the vehicle by a friend - not the owner of the car - and agreed to help officers locate this person.

During inventory of the car, officers located a small amount of methamphetamine in her purse. She was arrested and placed in the back seat of a patrol car.

While officers were transporting the suspect to jail, they could detect a strong smell of marijuana coming from the back seat of the patrol car.

After arriving at Potter County Correction Center and removing the female from the car, officers checked the back seat and found a small baggie of marijuana that the woman attempted to discard. It was later determined she had hidden the marijuana in her bra before officers stopped her.

She's been identified as Stephanie Janelle Betancourt, 34. She was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance penalty group 1 less than 1 oz.; possession of marijuana less than 2 oz.

The vehicle was released to the owner. The investigation into the stolen auto remains ongoing.
