Hospital shooting results in injury, arrest

Police make arrest after the March 18 officer-involved shooting at Northwest Texas Hospital.

Special Crimes Unit continues to investigate Tuesday night's police-involved shooting at Northwest Texas Hospital.

On March 18, officers were dispatched on a possible assault. After arrival, however, an employee directed their attention to a man who was not involved in the original dispatch call, but the subject of another investigation that required police involvement.

The officers went to the parking lot to apprehend the man, and saw him in a vehicle driven by a female. An officer approached the vehicle as it was exiting the parking lot and ordered the driver to stop. Instead, the driver revved the engine and drove directly at the officer.

The officer fired his weapon at the vehicle and one of the occupants sustained a non-life threatening injury.

The driver was identified as Leighann Nichole Griffin, 25. She was booked into Potter County Correction Center for Aggravated Assault against a Peace Officer; a warrant for theft by check out of Randall County; and a traffic warrant issued by the City of Amarillo.
