The Texas Panhandle Honor Flight organization needs $80,000 in additional donations before they are able to move forward with a September trip to Washington D.C.

TPHF operates solely on donations from the community to send veterans to visit war memorials and connect with others who have fought for our country.

The total fundraising goal was set for $230,000 this year and the organization only has one more fundraiser planned before deciding if the flight will be canceled.

TPHF President Don Ricks told ABC 7 News, if they are forced to cancel they will come up with an alternative way to pay tribute to the veterans.

"We're going to do something, if it's nothing except a nice steak dinner and get them all together where they can visit or something. I sure am hoping it will happen. We have more than enough people in this city to get that kind of money together,” said Ricks.

The organization is also in need of at least 20 more guardians to assist on the trip.
