High speed chase ends in Amarillo, DPS and APD search for suspect

DPS is searching for the person who stole this vehicle in Canyon, led officials on a high speed chase that ended in Amarillo.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, an unidentified suspect stole a vehicle in Canyon Thursday morning.

DPS said the owner of the vehicle left the vehicle unattended while they went inside the Allsup's on Highway 60 in Canyon. That is when the suspect got inside the vehicle and drove away with it toward Amarillo.

After receiving reports DPS located the vehicle and attempted to stop the suspect when the suspect refused to stop, leading DPS on a high speed chase.

According to DPS, the suspect drove into Amarillo and crashed into a pole in a neighborhood at 20th and Lipscomb. The suspect then fled the scene on foot.

DPS said at this time they are working with Amarillo Police Department and other law enforcement organizations to locate him. The suspect is described as a white male with short hair. He was wearing a black and white poncho like jacket and blue jeans. If you have any information contact APD at 378-3038.

At this time DPS says to make sure you do not leave your vehicle unattended while it is on. Make sure you stay with your vehicle while it warms up and do not leave your car running and unattended while at a convenience store.
