By Shannel Douglas
Sat, 20 Jul 2013 22:36:54 GMT — Amarillo Habitat for Humanity handed over the keys to a local single mother to her new home Saturday. Hayley Higgins will now be living in her Amarillo home with her two daughters thanks to the Amarillo Habitat. Higgins had to work over 500 hours to be able to become a new homeowner with the organization. Different sponsors came together to form their collegiate challenge group that worked to make the home what it was, including a group from St. Josephâ??s University in Philadelphia. Amarillo Habitat has built and rehabbed 94 homes in Amarillo since 1981. The organization plans to build another 5 new homes in 2014, one of which will be their 100 th home.
