Grass fire contained outside town of Beaver

Firefighters work to extinguish a blaze in Beaver County on Tuesday.

A fire that threatened the small Oklahoma Panhandle town of Beaver is now under control.

Officials said they were concerned the fire, which started a/round noon, would enter the city.

The fire was traveling quickly because of the hot, dry and windy conditions.

It was contained early Tuesday afternoon.

Fire departments from across the Oklahoma Panhandle and southwestern Kansas responded.
