Thu, 16 Aug 2012 10:57:29 GMT — The 19th Coors Tournament of Champions begins Thursday morning as a field of 8 players will hit the links in hopes of winning the 72 hole event and earn the title of best golfer in Amarillo for 2012.Two time defending champion Zach Norrell leads the field as he goes in search of a third straight win. The only other player to accomplish that is Tom Doughtie and he is in this years field, thanks to winning the ACC club championship. The rest of the field is comprised of Casey Weiss, Daniel Higgins, Josh McCoy, John Dawson, Luke Kane and Tall Tower winner, Michael Casey. The field plays Tascosa GC followed by rounds at Comanche Trail Tomahawk and Arrowhead and wraps up Sunday at Ross Rogers Wildhorse.For the first time, a senior division has been added for other area tournament winners. The three players field made up of Steve Rogers, Brian Bim and Jerry Perales. They will play a 36 hole tournament on Saturday and Sunday in front of the other eight players.Finally, fans have a chance to win a host of prizes courtesy of Coors thanks to a shootout Thursday night at Ross Rogers. The 7 hole event begins at 5 o'clock and fans must get a ticket by the 5th hole to qualify for the drawing at the end of play. Among the items, Callaway irons, driver, putter, balls and wedge along with a 2013 Amarillo city golf permit and 2 Ryan Palmer signed PGA flags.
