Four legged friends enjoy Muttfest celebration

They're a man's best friend, but Sunday afternoon those lifelong companions may have found new friends.

Dogs from across the panhandle enjoyed a day in the park with the annual Muttfest celebration.

"Muttfest is our largest fundraising event for the Amarillo SPCA," said Muttfest Committee Member Mary Ramirez. "The funds raised are used at our local no-kill animal shelter."

Committee members said that in the past 20 years, the festival has grown tremendously.

Various breeds and hundreds of people attend the event. It was the perfect place for a, "Sunday fun day".

"We wanted to bring the kids out and the dogs," said Muttfest Attendee H.E. Burchard. "Just to let them see everybody, and have a good time and enjoy the atmosphere and all the activities that are going on."

Last year the event generated more than 14,000 dollars for the Amarillo SPCA. This year they are hoping to top that.
