Two people were arrested Thursday after footprints in the snow led officers to a man accused of auto burglary.
hursday night Amarillo Police Department officers responded to an auto burglary in progress at Motel 6 in the 4300 block of east Interstate 40 at approximately 10:30 p.m.
According to APD, a witness informed officers that a white male wearing a blue jacket was removing items from a car and putting them inside a truck near it. The suspect then left area and ran across the parking lot.
Officers followed footprints in the snow back to the motel where they found 29-year-old Shaman Lee Cooper. APD said Cooper matched the description of the burglar provided by the witness and was arrested after he was identified by the witness. Cooper told officers he was staying at the motel, so they checked the room he was staying in and found 23-year-old Jennifer Nichole Jones inside.
Jones was wanted on a Gray County misdemeanor theft warrant and was taken into custody, APD said.
APD said officers also checked the white pickup truck and found that it had been reported stolen out of Pampa.
Both Jones and Cooper were booked in to the Potter County Detention Center. Cooper was charged with burglary of a motor vehicle and had an outstanding traffic warrant. APD said no charges for the stolen vehicle have been filed at this time.
