Fire Marshal determines cause of Town Square Village fire

The Fire Marshal's office has determined the cause of this week's fire at Town Square Village.

The Fire Marshal's office has determined the cause of this week's fire at Town Square Village.

On July 7, 2014, at 6:09, seven Amarillo Fire Department fire trucks and two comman units responded to a structure fire at the Residence at Town Square, 9201 Town Square Blvd.

Heavy fire was reported in the north end of the building and was rapidly spreading south throughout the building when AFD arrived.

The building had begun to collapose by the time the units were set up to apply water.

Firefighting efforts were directed to protect other exposed buildings on the complex. Additional units were dispatched to the scene to provide exposure protection support and to patrol for flying sparks and brands in the area.

Fire investigators were also called to the scene.

The fire was under control at 9:05 p.m. AFD units remained on scene until the morning hours of July 9 to maintain perimeter security and to prevent flare-ups.

The Fire Marshal's office determined this to be an accidental fire as a result of a cutting operation where a small fire was thought to have been extinguished by employees of a welding subcontractor.

The dollar loss is figured to be between $15-$20 million.
