UPDATE: 3:38 p.m.

A fire that began in a garage at a residence at 2407 S. Wilson Wednesday morning caused an estimated $25,000 in damages.

According to Amarillo Fire Capt. Larry Davis, the Amarillo Fire Department was called to a structure fire at 4:40 a.m. and found a single story residence with the garage fully involved in fire upon arrival. A second alarm was immediately called due to the amount of fire combined with wind speeds and crews had the neighbors to the south temporarily evacuate their home.

Firefighters began battling the blaze from the outside until crews could make their way into the main part of the house. The fire was called under control at 5:20 a.m.

The garage was completely destroyed but the fire extended into very little of the main part of the house. Amarillo Fire Marshall's determined the fire began in the garage but the cause remains unknown.

The property is reported to have been vacant for several weeks. Damages have been estimated at $25,000.
