Family gets devastating news about 9-year-old boy's cancer battle
The family of 9-year-old Jayro Ponce, a Follett boy who is battling cancer, received news that they will only have a few more weeks with Jayro.
Jayro was diagnosed with a malignant rhabdoid tumor earlier this year.
The family had high hopes when Jayro was accepted to St. Jude's Children's Hospital for additional treatment after being treated in Amarillo. But during their visit at St. Jude, the family was told there is nothing that could be done for Jayro's cancer and he only has a few weeks of life left.
According to a post on the Team Jayro Facebook page, the family had set up a plan and were going home with trial medicine to prolong Jayro's life at least five more years. However, on Friday, after many scans and tests, they found Jayro's entire belly is full of cancer and that operating is no longer an option.
The post goes on to say the family will go home with morphine to give Jayro and try to enjoy his last few weeks as best they can. The family is asking the public to give them space to enjoy Jayro's last moments. Jayro does not know his fate.
Next week, Jayro and his family will go to New York to enjoy his Make-A-Wish request.
