Although there are no details on the events leading up to the shots being fired, an Amarillo man was booked after his ex-wife was hit with a door knob fragment and police responded to the 911 call.
On July 5 at around 4 p.m., Amarillo police officers responded to a home in the 5300 block of Tawney. The call initially came in as a 911 hangup, but an additional call advised that there was a female suffering from a gunshot wound.
Responding officers made contact with the victim, a 56-year-old woman, who was in a neighbor's home.
She was bleeding from a minor injury on her temple and had walked to a neighbor's house for assistance.
The initial investigation indicated that her ex-husband had fired one or more shots at interior door knobs while he was inside the home. The victim was hit by a small fragment of metal that came from one of the bullet impacts.
While officers were speaking to the woman, her ex-husband, Mark Alan Prichard, 57, approached the neighbor's home.
He identified himself to officers, but walked away when officers tried to investigate further. He ignored their repeat comands to stop and walk walking back to the home in apparent attempt to get inside.
An officer used a TASER to take him into custody. Prichard was booked into Potter County Detention Center on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon against a family member. The victim was treated at a local hospital for the non-life threatening injury.
At this point, there is no information describing the events within the home before the officers were called.
