      Duo arrested in DPS marijuana bust


      Texas Department of Public Safety conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 40



      Friday that resulted in the seizure of 50 pounds of marijuana valued at more than $226,000.


      According to DPS, at approximately 11:25 am,



      a DPS trooper stopped a 2006 Toyota Solara traveling east on Interstate 40,



      for a traffic violation,



      near Conway in Carson County.


      DPS identified the occupants in the vehicle as Keith Raymond Mercer,49,of Corona,Calif. and Robert Steven Slagle Jr.,of Garden Grove,Calif. While searching the vehicle, the trooper discovered 23 bundles of marijuana in the vehicle.


      Both Mercer and Slagle were placed under arrest for possession of a controlled substance,a second-degree felony,and booked into Carson County Jail.


      DPS said the drugs were allegedly being transported from Corona,



      Calif.,



      to El Reno,



      Okla.
