Two people were arrested Thursday after a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper found more than 35 pounds of marijuana during a traffic stop in Carson County near Groom.
According to DPS, the trooper stopped the vehicle on Interstate 40 for a traffic violation. During the stop, the trooper searched the vehicle and found 16 bundles of marijuana inside suitcases. DPS said the estimated street value of the drugs is more than $152,000.
DPS identified the occupants of the vehicle as 30-year-old Lee Spencer Magalis, and 29-year-old Joseph Paul Huffman. Magalis and Huffman were arrested for possession of a controlled substance and booked into the Carson County Jail.
The drugs were allegedly being transported from Sebastopol, Calif. to Harrisonburg, Va.
