DPS seizes 213 pounds of marijuana

Monday's drug bust on I-40 yielded four bundles, or 213 pounds, of marijuana.

The Texas Department of Public Safety conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 40 on April 28 that subsequently unveiled 213 pounds of marijuana.

At approximately 11:29 a.m., a DPS trooper stopped a 2012 Ford Taurus traveling eastbound on I-40 for a traffic violation near Conway in Carson County.

The occupants of the Taurus were identified as Juan Daniel Parra, 24, and Raul Ernesto Araujo-Borrego, 20, both of Tuscon, Ariz.

During the traffic stop, four bundles of marijuana were discovered in the trunk of the Taurus.

Parra and Araujo-Borrego were placed under arrest for possession of a controlled substance, a first-degree felony, and booked into the Carson County Jail. The illegal drugs were allegedly being transported from Tuscon, Ariz., to Fort Lee, Virg.

DPS estimated the value of the marijuana to be approximately $96,000.
