A man and woman were killed in a head-on collision Saturday near Fritch, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

DPS said around 7p.m. Saturday, Michael Jack Dobbs, 36, of Fritch was driving a 2000 Dodge Stratus westbound on State Highway 136 near Fritch when he traveled into the eastbound lanes.

Rachael Danielle Stevens, 28, of Amarillo was driving a 2001 Jeep Cherokee eastbound and attempted to avoid a collision with Dobbs, but was struck head-on.

Dobbs and Stevens were both pronounced dead at the scene.

DPS officials said Stevens was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, Dobbs was not wearing a seatbelt.

The cause of the accident has not been determined.

Emergency crews were on scene most of Saturday night. The Hutchinson County Fire Department reported SH 136 was shut down for some of the evening and traffic was diverted down Eagle Boulevard and 687 while crews investigated the scene.
