DPS recovers $216K in stolen jewelry

Saturday afternoon Texas Department of Public Safety troopers stopped a Chevy Malibu on Interstate 40 near Shamrock.
According to DPS, the vehicle was traveling east on Interstate 40 in Wheeler County. A K-9 unit was used to do a free air search of the vehicle. The troopers search the vehicle after the K-9 alerted on the vehicle.
In their search, the troopers found $216,850 worth of stolen jewelry, gold, silver inside the trunk side panels. The bar codes on the jewelry indicated that it had been stolen from a Macy's Department Store in Birmingham Ala. The driver of the vehicle was identified as 40-year-old Michael Bourgeois from Los Angeles Calif.
Bourgeois was arrested for possession of stolen property and booked into the Wheeler County Jail. DPS said Bourgeois was traveling from Atlanta Ga. to Los Angeles Calif.
