Area hospitals and neighborhood blood centers are asking you to donate blood this week to help fight a life threatening condition which can happen in pregnancy. Sarah Spite went into the hospital after multiple bleeding episodes early in pregnancy, and it was there she discovered she had placenta accreta, which can cause severe bleeding in delivery and can be life threatening to both mother and child.
While it is rare, one in about 2500 women in pregnancy have it. Sarah now says her result was a good one
due to multiple transfusions which were available in the operating room.
She credits her success now to donors that she knows she will never meet, she said there was quite a list of blood and blood products she needed that likely saved her life, and the life of her child
